SUMMARY:The Reentry Experience: How to Talk With—Not For—People Previously Incarcerated
DESCRIPTION:This presentation will explore the reentry experience for those releasing from incarceration that have a history of substance misuse. People who are released from incarceration have a much higher risk of overdose and exposure to traumatic experiences. Upon release\, these individuals face unique barriers and challenges to accessing resources. Participants will learn how to further relationships with probation and parole to build care coordination skills within the criminal justice system. Participants will gain knowledge on not only how to be an advocate for their participants pre-release but post-release as well. \n \nBailey Beauchamp\, BA\, MAADC II\, MARS\nRecovery Services Team Lead\nBailey Beauchamp holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from the University of Missouri–Kansas City. She is a Missouri Associate Alcohol and Drug Counselor II (MAADC II) and a certified Medication Assisted Recovery Specialist (MARS). \nBailey joined First Call on September 19\, 2022\, initially serving as a Reentry Recovery Advocate. As services evolved within the organization\, she transitioned into the Recovery Advocate role\, continuing to work closely with participants to explore substance misuse and connect them with vital community resources that support long-term success and recovery. \nIn January 2025\, Bailey was promoted to Recovery Services Team Lead. In collaboration with Daniel\, she has played a key role in rebuilding the reentry program. With over four years of experience in reentry services\, Bailey remains deeply passionate about helping individuals returning from incarceration achieve their goals and gain access to the support and opportunities they need to thrive. \n \nDaniel Kutzberger\, MARS\, CPS\nRecovery Advocate\nDaniel Kutzberger joined First Call on October 1\, 2024\, as a Recovery Advocate. In this role\, he initially assisted incoming clients from a variety of backgrounds and service sectors. Daniel began facilitating groups at the Transition Center of Kansas City\, where he gained firsthand insight into the challenges and barriers faced by individuals navigating reentry. \nSoon after\, Daniel began collaborating with Bailey Beauchamp on rebuilding the reentry program within First Call’s Recovery Services. Through this work\, Daniel developed a strong passion for supporting participants both pre- and post-release\, helping them transition successfully back into their communities. \nDaniel also brings valuable lived experience to his role\, having maintained his recovery since May 20\, 2016. He uses that experience to guide and encourage clients through the early stages of recovery\, offering both practical support and authentic understanding.
