Service Description
9AM-Noon 3 CEUs Facilitated by Megan Keller How to Care is for caregivers (parents, foster parents, grandparents, teachers, social workers, etc) of youth who have been impacted by a family members substance use and trauma. This training provides education about substance use disorders, trauma, the impact of parental substance use, the impact on family dynamics, physical health, relationships, and what harm reduction looks like for families. The importance of self-care for caregivers and family members is also discussed. Megan Keller has a BS in Family Studies from Miami University and an MS in Family Studies from Purdue University. Megan has worked in the substance use disorder field for 23 years and has focused on the impact substance use disorders have on the family. Megan has presented at many conferences and other venues on this topic along with facilitating groups throughout the Kansas City metro area to children, teens and adults on how to cope with a family members’ substance use disorder and how to care for children impacted by this disease.
