The Prevention Department welcomes the opportunity to work with schools, businesses and organizations throughout Greater Kansas City. We offer community presentations, educational programs and recovery panels. We work with each school or agency to meet specific needs.

Recovery Advocacy Program
Our Recovery Advocacy Program provides one-on-one support for adults across the recovery spectrum including people in early recovery, those in long term recovery needing additional support and people who are interested in lowering the risks of their drug or alcohol use.
Advocates Connect You With Resources
We help connect you to substance use treatment, mental and physical healthcare, recovery housing, recovery groups, and employment/education resources.
Support Is Indivdualized
Collaborate with your Recovery Advocate to develop a personalized recovery plan and create a positive support network to assist you.
Support Is Free of Charge
No one is ever turned away because of their inability to pay. First Call provides this service free of charge to individuals in need.
There is No Sobriety or Abstinence Requirement
The only requirement is a commitment to attending scheduled appointments or notice ahead of time if rescheduling is needed.

Our Impact
Programs
The Reentry Advocacy Program provides unique one-on-one clinical support to individuals releasing from jail or prison to the Kansas City, Missouri metro area [Jackson, Johnson (MO), Cass, and Platte counties]. Clients in the program receive recovery support pre-release, as well as ongoing support services as they return to the community. Sober ME
An intensive four-week outpatient program that consists of twice daily groups that helps clients understand their substance use and its impacts. The curriculum covers topics such as motivation to change, the disease of addiction, the stages of change, communication styles, self-awareness, thought patterns, relapse prevention, and many others. In addition to group sessions, participants in Sober ME receive weekly individual sessions to help them identify their progress and ongoing barriers for recovery.
ME After
A once-weekly support group for participants who have completed Sober ME. ME After, facilitated by a First Call clinician, utilizes and builds on Sober ME. ME After provides participants with a safe place to process relapse triggers, recurrences of substance use, and discuss barriers in their on-going recovery, while obtaining healthy peer feedback and support.
Assessments
First Call offers confidential one-on-one evaluation for adults and adolescents with certified substance use professionals and referrals to appropriate care. Assessment fees are due upon scheduling, with sliding scale based available based on annual income.
